Hamble Winter Series Big Boat - 4/5th and 18/19th October

The season ended on a high, winning the Hamble Winter Series Big Boat series by a decisive margin.

The first weekend turned out to be just 3 races on Saturday morning (results 1,2,2) before windspeeds in the mid 30s brought an end to racing.

The weather for the second weekend was near perfect with sunshine and winds building over the two days from low teens to mid 20s.  Results improved as the wind increased including securing 3 more race wins.

Cowes Week - 2-9th August

What a contrast to last years weather...at least there was no need to sit around waiting for wind!  Conditions ranged from 8 knots to 30 knots, sunshine to torrential rain, top boat speed of 24 knots. Henri Lloyd guests during the week included Katie Miller and England rugby player Joe Worsley.  Our best results came on the windiest days with two 3rds, a 4th, two 5ths and three 6ths leaving us 6th overall just behind Allegre in Class Zero.  Full results here

Cork Week - 14-18th July

After the light wind frustrations of the harbour race on day one the breeze ranged from 12 to 22 knots for the rest of the week.  The benefits of time together on the water were clear with a much better second half of the week resulting in a final position of 6th out of the high quality 15 boats in Super Zero.  The range of different courses that Cork provides, together with the whole off the water experience (!) made this a very memorable week.  Full results here

Round the Island Race - 28th June

This is what we go sailing for...crowded start lines (at the island shore), leading after the beat to the Needles, exhilarating ride round the bottom of the island with a top speed of 26 knots, and a great result.  Time get round the Isle of Wight 4 hours 47 minutes, which would have been even quicker but for an intimate encounter with a Lobster Pot.  Result - 3rd Overall and 2nd in Class 0 behind overall winners RAN.

IRC Nationals - 13-15th June

Great racing, Ben Ainslie on board for a day, and frustrations due to poor race management are the event headlines.  Race results of four 4ths and three 5ths led to 5th overall...but everyone was behind us at least once and all the racing was close over the 3 days.  Unfortunately our race victory was removed in the protest room late on Saturday night when errors by the race officer led to the race being abandon.  Full results here

Vice Admirals Cup 30 May - 1 June

A frustrating weekend for all concerned with not enough wind for racing on Friday and Sunday.  One race late afternoon in decent sea breeze conditions Saturday followed by another where it disappeared were not enough to constitute a series.

Warsash Spring Series Big Boat 19/10 April

The by now habitual retirement from race 1 on Saturday was followed by 2nd place on the water for the remaining three races and 4th, 3rd and 2nd on corrected time.  The pattern was maintained on Sunday with 3rd and 4th on corrected time in both races after chasing RAN on the water.  4th overall in the Warsash Spring Series Big Boat.

Warsash Spring Series Big Boat 5/6 April

A total of 22 boats entered in IRC1 for the Big Boat Series ranging from 38 to 52 feet making for interesting starts.  After self destructing in races 1 and 2 while leading, race 3 saw a victory and race 4 victory on the water and 5th on corrected time.  Unfortunately there was no racing on Sunday due to the snow!

Red Funnel 21-23 March

Racing was blown off for the first two days leaving a two race series between five IRC modified TP52s and a Farr 52.  After close racing with Valars and John Merricks we finished 2nd and 3rd giving 2nd overall behind comprehensive winners Ran.  Report on the RORC website here
